City on a Hill prepares all of its students to succeed in college by requiring that all complete a rigorous educational program. The curriculum of every class is structured with high expectations so as to give students the academic skills they will need to succeed in college. There are no honors classes as City on a Hill believes that all of its students should be given the high expectations of college readiness. Calculus and two AP classes, AP Government and AP Art History are open to all seniors. All students must pass all classes with an average of 70% or higher. The full educational program is outlined below.
City on a Hill holds all students to high expectations but it also pledges to give them the support they need to succeed. The average class size is 18 students. The school day runs from 8 am to 4 pm. Freshmen attend a Summer Academy before the school year begins to introduce them to the high discipline standards of the school and to improve on the math and English basics they will need to succeed. Tutoring is required for all students who need extra-help. Extra math and English classes are built into the school day to make sure students are prepared for advanced study. All of City on a Hill's highly trained faculty stay after school every day to help students. All seniors take a seminar that guides them through the process of researching colleges, writing essays, and applying for financial aid. City on a Hill has high expectations for its students and it gives those students the need to reach them.
City on a Hill believes that high academic expectations cannot be achieved without order in the halls and in the classrooms. Because of this belief, which has been proven time and time again, all students must respect their teachers and peers and follow the code of conduct. Derogatory language, electronics or headgear during the school day, threatening behavior or language, and insubordination are not tolerated. All students are required to wear a uniform.
