Dear City on a Hill Families,

I hope this letter finds you well!  Winter Break is already here and Quarter 2 is more than half over.  Can you believe it?  Soon midterms will be upon us.  Students received their written test schedule and individual oral proficiency schedule a week or two ago.  Please help your students keep track of their schedule so that they don’t miss anything important!

After we come back from break, there is one week (5 school days) until Midterm Exams.  Midterms will be held January 13-21.  There will be a two-hour written exam each morning from 8:00am – 10:00am.  At 10:00am, students are dismissed for the day unless they have an Oral Presentation later that day.  Oral Presentations are scheduled on an individual basis and do not happen in each class.  Each student will receive his or her individual schedule for Oral Presentations before we go on break.  Please be sure to double check their schedule and (if they leave school) help them to arrive back at least 20 minute before their scheduled Oral Presentation time.

Town Meetings at CoaH!

We have now held two Town Meeting debates.  I wanted to take some time to acknowledge Jalyssa Depina, Dyimond Humphrey, Lynn Constant, Rochiya Glover, Bruno, Lopes, Oluwasegun Folajimi, Keniyah Adams-Heyward, and Joelandra Fraser from the Ray Charlse advisory for running the first Town Meeting Debate!  I also want to acknowledge Isaiah Ribeiro, Yoseft Deleon, Gerald Williams, Jahsai Maxwell-Hyppolite, Tayah Pettus, Carlos Carrasco, Ronilia Badley, Amya Hodges, and Joel Nunez from the John Lewis Advisory for running the second Town Meeting debate!  The third debate will take place January 28th and will be led by the Oprah Winfrey Advisory.

Looking for Translators

If you can read and write in both English and Cape Verdean Creole, we are looking for someone to help translate our family letters!  Please reach out to Laura Edouard, Principal at ledouard@cityonahill.org if you’re interested.  You would be paid a small stipend for each translated letter.  I want to truly thank all of you for all that you do.  We cannot do this without you and your continued support!
