Letter to CoaH Families – March 25, 2020

Dear CoaH Families:

I am writing to provide an update on City on a Hill’s response to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). As a reminder, all of our previous messages are archived here.

Earlier today, Governor Charlie Baker extended the closure of all Massachusetts schools through at least Monday, May 4. City on a Hill Boston and City on a Hill New Bedford will be closed during this period as well.

It was also announced that the Massachusetts Commissioner of Education will be sending guidance to schools on the development of a more comprehensive remote learning plan. In anticipation of this guidance, the Senior Leadership Team has been putting in place the structures to act upon our directives, including our ongoing initiative to confirm computer and internet access for all of our students. Below, we have updates about our Chromebook distribution:

  • New Bedford: New Bedford students who need chromebooks will be able to pick them up from the New Bedford campus on Thursday, March 25 by appointment only. If you haven’t already scheduled a time, please reach out to Callie Pope at cpope@cityonahill.org to make arrangements. To ensure the safety and health of everyone involved, we will not provide chromebooks to those without an appointment.
  • Boston: As a result of the Governor’s announcement, the deadline to complete the family technology survey has been extended to 11:59 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, March 25. The survey can be submitted using a smartphone or another internet-enabled device.

We will reach out to families separately with instructions for chromebook pick-up. Families will have the opportunity to sign up for specific pick-up times so that we may adhere to social distancing guidelines.

We understand that an extended closure raises many questions. As always, please email covid19@cityonahill.org with questions or concerns and we will address as many of them as possible in our next communication which is planned for the afternoon of Friday, March 27.

Please know that we remain committed to supporting you to the greatest extent possible during this time.Thank you once again for your help to keep our community healthy and safe.
