Letter to CoaH Families – September 25, 2020

Dear City on a Hill Families,

We have some very important information to share with you.  Please take the time to read this letter carefully and complete the included survey.  We very much value your input and want your feedback as we continue to improve our program.


Many families have reached out asking for information about when (or if) we will move to a hybrid model for learning.  City on a Hill’s administration is working hard to decide what the hybrid model of learning will look like and determine the optimal date for bringing students back to school. 

We have decided to push our hybrid start date back to the end of the first quarter.  The earliest students will be returning to school is Monday, November 9th.  As we stated in August, we will continue to monitor COVID trends, and use science and data to make all our decisions.  We will only bring students back to school when we believe we can do safely.


As we continue to improve our remote learning model and make decisions about hybrid learning, we want your feedback on the process.  Please take 5 minutes to complete the following survey about your intentions for sending your students back to school and your experience thus far with remote learning in the fall.

When you call the Main Office, an automated system will provide you with the option of choosing tech support.  This will take you to our call center where you or your student can receive support with any technology-related issues you are experiencing.  We hope this will allow us to help more people at the same time. 


Join us Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 – 6:30 for a session led by Zoom expert, Carole Copeland Thomas, that will walk students and parents through the basics of using Zoom specifically for remote learning. In this session, Carole will cover how to log into your CoaH Zoom account, how to troubleshoot common Zoom technology issues, and how to engage in class with basic features. If you have had questions or concerns about how your student can log into their Zoom classes, this is the perfect session for you.  You can access  Zoom Academy on Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 – 6:30 at the link below. http://bit.ly/coahzoomacademy 


Teachers and students are reporting sound and connection issues. After speaking with our tech support they are recommending  all students have headphones with a mic. We have 100+ new headphones that we just purchased. If you don’t have headphones with a microphone please come and pick a set up ASAP. THEY ARE FREE! You can also buy your own headphones but they must have a mic. 

Additionally, you may need an Internet boost or hot spot. Even if you have internet at home, with your student (or students) needing to be on Zoom daily for many hours, it may be stressing your internet connection.  This is resulting in connectivity and sound issues.  We also have hot spots here to rent for the year. Students have been doing an amazing job with virtual school. Teachers want to hear the student’s thoughts and opinions. Also participation in class is an important part of your student’s grade.
