Dear City on a Hill Families,

Happy New Year! As we begin the new year, we hope that everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy.  There are many things to be excited about in the new year; a new presidential administration which includes our first woman of color as Vice-President; a glimmer of hope to see an end to the global pandemic; and hopefully many more.  City on a Hill teachers and administrators have begun preparing students for their Midterm Exams and Presentations.  Below are some reminders and information about midterms.  We will also be sharing this information with students via a Town Meeting Webinar.

MIDTERM EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS

  • Students must be using their school-issued chromebook for all written exams and oral presentations.  Students will not be allowed to take their exam or give their presentation if they are not using a school-issued chromebook.

  • Student must have their cameras on and their faces fully visible on the screen for the entirety of their exam.

  • Students are expected to be on mute for the entirety of their written exam, and to send a private chat to the proctor if they have a question.

  • Students must privately chat the proctor when they are finished and receive confirmation from the proctor that they can leave before leaving the zoom room (proctors will check with the subject teacher to confirm the student has submitted their exam before dismissing them).

  • Written Exams are from 8:00 - 10:00.  If a student arrives late, they do not receive extra time.

  • If a student misses exam, they will receive a zero unless approved by the Chief Schools Officer or Principal to take their exam at another time.

City on a Hill has over 250 students.  It is very important that students arrive to the correct zoom link on time.

TEST YOUR TECHNOLOGY!

For midterm exams and oral proficiencies, it is of the utmost importance that your student has a school-issued computer with a working camera and sound system.

  • We mailed home headphones with Quarter 1 Report Cards.  Please ensure your student is using their headphones for best sound quality when speaking.

  • We still have hot spots for rent!  For a $20.00 deposit, you can receive a hotspot to use for the current school year.

  • If you are still experiencing Technology or Internet issues, please reach out to the Front Office at

  • 617-445-1515 as soon as possible so we can support you with solving any technology issues.

QUARTER 3 MATERIALS

As we near quarter 3, students will need to come pick up English books for the rest of the school year.  Students can come pick up English books during midterms (January 21 - January 28) between 7:30am and 2:00pm.

Best,
