Dear Students and Families:

I hope you had a safe summer and that you are ready to come back to school and work hard!  Having grown up in Dorchester, attended Boston Public Schools, and worked at City on a Hill for 13 years, I am honored to be entering my 4th year as Principal of City on a Hill.  I am equally eager to continue working with students and families to further our mission of developing students to be responsible, respectful democratic citizens of the City of Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the United States.  I am looking forward to working with every family to meet the needs of our students and working with teachers to help each student develop the skills they will need to navigate the systems of power in their world when they graduate from City on a Hill Charter School.

I also want to take a moment to talk about what school will be like in the upcoming year.  As you know, we are (hopefully) nearing the end of the global COVID-19 pandemic.  While we are excited that the end seems to be in sight, we still don’t know exactly when that end will be.  I want to let you know that students and staff will be required to wear face masks at all times except during breakfast and lunch.

We highly recommend that every student get vaccinated before returning to school.

Included in this mailing is a list of places in and around Boston where you can get your COVID-19 vaccine.  You can also go to this website or search for “COVID-19 vaccination sites in Boston” to find a clinic that gives the vaccine.

Did you know that students between the ages of 12-17 are eligible for Massachusetts grant money if you’re vaccinated?  You can register your student at: https://www.vaxmillionsgiveaway.com/child-registration

Below is some additional information and updates to prepare you for the upcoming year:

First Day of School: The first day of school will be Monday, August 30, 2021.  Students may arrive as early as 7:30 and first period will begin at 8:00.  Any student who wants to eat breakfast must arrive before 7:45.

Uniforms: We have a new Uniform Policy this year, which we will be consistently enforcing.

Students MUST wear:

- City on a Hill top (provided by the school: a short sleeve polo, a long sleeve polo, and a sweater)

- Any pants

- Any shoes (NOT house shoes or slippers)

- A face mask

Students MAY NOT wear:

- Hats and hoods

- House shoes or slippers

- Shorts/Skirts above the knee

Supplies: We have also included a copy of the supplies list for the school year. Students should come prepared with their materials as soon as possible, but no later than the second week of school.  Professional dress is an exception.  That will not likely be needed until the end of the first quarter. If you have questions about these supplies, please call the Front Office at (617) 445-1515.

Thank you and I look forward to working hard this year with each and every one of you!

Laura Edouard, Principal
